Colliston Castle – For a Fairy Tale Wedding

Colliston Castle is located four miles northwest of Arbroath and nestles in the East Angus countryside. This tower fairytale castle was built in 1545 and is steeped in history Built on the grounds of a mansion it has been the home of many illustrious families. The property was granted to John Guthrie by Cardinal Beaton of Arbroath Abbey in1539 and the Z plan castle was built in 1545. Originally it had four stories and an attic but was renovated in the following years.

During the early 17th century the top storey was removed and the pepper pot turret was reduced in height. The top of the west tower was also removed. The tower was sold to the Gordon family in 1691. It was then bought by the Chaplin family in 1721, who made it their home till the 1920s. It then passed to the Stuarts who still live in the Castle. Thus through its 550 year old history it has always been a residence.

Colliston Castle is set in 60 acres of natural parkland, teeming with wildlife from red deer and red squirrels to buzzards and pheasants. While the castle grounds are not usually open to the public, this romantic Scottish castle offers a magnificent and memorable setting for any event or special occasion.
