Castles in the Outer and Inner Hebrides

Scotland boasts an absolute abundance of castles and castle ruins, and the Hebrides are certainly no exception. Several islands of the Outer and Inner Hebrides are home to fascinating structures dating back many centuries. Be sure to include some of these fascinating historical buildings on your tour of the Hebrides.

Whilst exploring the Isle of Mull, tourists can visit the Duart Castle. Beautifully situated on a rocky cliff, the castle has served as the ancestral home of the Maclean clan. You may also wish to view the castles of Moy and Torosay on the Isle of Mull. Those touring the Isle of Skye will also find a number of castles to explore including Dunvegan Castle (MacLeod Clan), Armadale Castle (a visitor center for the Donald Clan), Caisteal Maol, Duntulm Castle and Knock Castle.

Also worth exploring are the castles of the Isle of Barra. A castle tour on the island will take you to Kisimul Castle and Sinclair Castle (also referred to as MacLeod’s Tower). Be sure to tour the Isle of Harris, where you will find accommodation in Amhuinnsuide Castle and Adrvourlie Castle.
