Dundee's Whitehall Theatre

If you are looking for some theatrical entertainment when in Dundee why not head off to the Whitehall Theatre. Many programs are aimed at young ones, but are enjoyed by the entire family. Other performances are exciting musical extravaganzas with songs you'll want to sing along to. Visitors will thoroughly enjoy the musical performances and other entertainment at Whitehall Theatre.

The original theatre was constructed back in 1928 under the name “Alhambra”. Alhambra Theatre acted as a cinema and small-scale theatre. It was eventually closed in 1968 with plans to demolish the building. Fortunately it was saved from this fate when the “Theatre Royal” was closed and certain companies needed somewhere to perform. It was reopened with the name Whitehall Theatre in 1969. Unfortunately the theatre once again faced difficulties in 1982 when it was closed so that money could be spent on the Dundee Rep Theatre. But amateur performers were unwelcome at the Rep, so the Amateur Theatre Trust was formed, and funds were raised to save the Whitehall Theatre.

Whitehall Theatre was finally purchased in November of 1982. The building was revamped and the Caledonian halls attached to the original theatre were transformed into dressing rooms, a board room, rehearsal room, toilets and other facilities. In a short time the entire Whitehall Theatre was ready to host marvelous performances by amateur actors and actresses. Before or following a performance visitors can enjoy a drink at the Coffee Bar. Efforts are continuously being made to ensure that patrons to the theatre are comfortable and well cared for.

If you would like to book a ticket to a performance at Whitehall Theatre the Box Office is located at 6 City Square. It is open on weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Whitehall Theatre itself is located at 12 Bellfield Street in Dundee. We are sure you'll have a great time at Whitehall Theatre.
