Boat of Garten Golf Club

The whistle of the steam engine resounds through the dense silver birch forests adding a touch of nostalgia as you play. The western boundary of the Boat of Garten Golf and Tennis Club is adjoining the tracks of the Strathspey Steam Railway, well loved by vacationers. Popularly called “the Gleneagles of the North,” the delightful Boat of Garten Club is one of the most scenic in Scotland.

Located in Inverness-shire at the Gateway to the Highlands, Boat of Garten nestles in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Boat of Garten village is also known as Osprey and is surrounded by majestic mountains, silver birch forests and has the meandering River Spey flowing nearby. In this bit of paradise master craftsman James Braid carved a delightful jewel in 1898, the Boat of Garten golf course. Not only is the setting memorable, the level of skill demanded by the game at “The Boat” is challenging.

Slightly off the beaten track, it is well worth the effort to visit the course. The first hole near the western boundary and the second in the direction of the Cairngorm Mountains provide the clubhouse with a picturesque view of the tree lined fairways against a backdrop of the Lairig Ghru and the northern corries of Braeriach. The course is shorter than average at 5876 yards, but at par 71, it has an intricate route of holes, through the birch forests, meandering up and down through broom and heather at differing elevations – not to be taken lightly!

The opening hole is a tricky par three and the course has a couple of long par 4s and two short par 5s. The par 4 sixth hole called Avenue is considered to be memorable. Visitors who come here will not be disappointed with the course nor with the surroundings. Despite its reputation of being a holiday course, Boat of Garten does test your golfing skills amidst unparalleled scenic surroundings.

The Clubhouse provides a warm welcome and has a friendly bar and restaurant, with excellent catering and service. All your golfing needs will be looked after at the Boat of Garten Golf & Tennis Club‘s well stocked golf shop.
