Strathyre – An Exquisite Vacation Destination in Scotland
Strathyre is a visitor's paradise. Its beautiful and lush green forests cover the hills on each side of the valley. Strathyre is situated in central Scotland, eight miles north of Callander and a little over an hour's drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Today the village of Strathyre has a population of about 250 people.
Strathyre village is a popular visitors’ attraction in Scotland, buzzing with activity. Strathyre has three inns, a post office shop and a local primary school. The Village shops offer a variety of interesting items for the benefit of all. Strathyre has some intriguing art shops and craft galleries that display handcrafted gifts and souvenirs, you will be pleasantly surprised by. You can find almost anything from patchwork quilts to shoelaces.
In and around Strathyre you will be acquainted with some Scottish history. Legends such as Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Rob Roy MacGregor have influenced history in the area. So be sure to have your local map to find your way around some of these historical sights.
Strathyre has a rich variety of outdoor activities. Come and breathe in fresh air with long walks in the forests. You can even cycle if you prefer. The mountains and waterfalls also provide a place of escape. You will be able to see a variety of wildlife including red squirrels and buzzards. Walkers will appreciate the many footpaths and trails within the nature reserves.
Near Strathyre is The Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Not to be missed, the forest park covers 50,000 acres of land with a mixture of commercial forest, semi-natural and ancient woodland. Within the boundaries of the park are three main forests: Loch Ard Forest, Achray Forest, and Strathyre Forest. Walkers and cyclists will not be disappointed with this experience.
Around Strathyre area there are some great fishing spots on lochs and rivers, the choices are endless. However permits are a must and are available for purchase locally.
If you prefer some excitement and want to release some built up energy then come to the Standing Waves. You will feel wonderful after canoeing and kayaking. You can hire the equipment and “do your own thing” on the River, or you can have a guided trip. So waste no time come for an experience of a life time.
