Kinlochleven – An Amazing Tourist Destination

The village of Kinlochleven is located along Loch Leven and is surrounded by breathtaking mountains and the calming beauty of the countryside. It has seen many industries and many people come and go, but is has remained a close community and one of the popular tourist destinations in Scotland.

The once sleepy village of scattered cottages and laid back
residents
were shaken into action with the arrival of the aluminum smelter in
1907.
With an unlimited supply of water right at its doorstep, Kinlochleven
was
the perfect location for the establishment of a hydro-powered factory.
Today, the factory is only used for hydro generation, as the aluminum
side
of the factory was closed in the year 2000. Kinlochleven is more
focused on
tourism, as it is an industry that generates income without the
destruction
of the spectacular landscape.

The old carbon factory is now home to the Atlas Brewery, which is
open to
visitors and features guided tours. Its high quality beers can be tasted in all
the
local pubs, and visitors are guaranteed to be satisfied with both the
factory
and it’s alcoholic beverage. Right next to the factory is the popular
Ice
Factor
attraction. Rock climbers, ice climbers and adrenalin junkies
will
enjoy this an amazing adventure. Here you will be able to take on the
ice-climbing wall that will certainly challenge enthusiasts and
entertain
nervous spectators. For the quieter tourists, the village has a wide
range
of stores to visit, a few local pubs to relax in and many good
restaurants.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy many different activities in
Kinlochleven, and in the nearby areas and villages. There are beautiful
nature walks to enjoy, mountain biking, fishing, various water sports
or
relaxing boat excursions on the loch. Paintball activities, abseiling
and
white water rafting are available in Inchree and golfing enthusiast can
play
a few holes at the golf club in Fort William. The Nevis Mountain Range
and
the Glencoe Mountain is an ideal location to enjoy an afternoon of
snowboarding and skiing.

One of the more historical locations in Kinlochleven is the Mamore
Lodge.
It was constructed in 1905 on the Fairfax-Lucy family owned land. The
Mamore
Lodge welcomed honored guests such as King Edward VII and Viscount
Churchill, and still displays the warm and friendly hospitality that
was
once reserved for the elite. Kinlochleven is amongst the
destinations in Scotland that offers tourists the
nostalgia
of a forgotten village, together with the accommodation and activities
that
is expected from a popular tourist destination.
