Tarbert Seafood Festival – Fun for the Whole Family

On the west coast of beautiful Scotland lies the small and peaceful town of Tarbert. Visitors often lose themselves in the tranquility of the breathtaking bay and the hospitality of the friendly locals. But as with most tiny villages in Scotland, it might be quiet and subdued throughout the year but when a festival comes around the town erupts in celebration, fun, entertainment and excitement. Visitors will experience this burst of life during the Tarbert Seafood Festival.

Tarbert owes most of its income to the ocean, as fishing is one of the main industries of the town. The Tarbert Seafood Festival is a way of promoting the town’s produce and allows visitors and the community to enjoy some of the best seafood dishes in Scotland. Offering mouth watering seafood and lively activities, the festival is guaranteed to be entertaining for the entire family.

The Tarbert Seafood Festival kicks off on the 7th of July 2008 with a jam packed program and such a diverse list of activities that few know where to start. The arrival of the Seafood Queen and her Princesses by fishing boat marks the start of the festival. As the festival is organized with seafood as its draw, master chef Nick Nairn will be showing off his remarkable cooking abilities and giving valuable tips on how to prepare the fresh catches of the Loch Fyne. Demonstrations, wine tasting and cooking competitions will keep the flavors flowing and the air filled with the aromas of freshly prepared seafood.

For the rest of Saturday, visitors can look forward to activities such as the surf simulator, paintball, community events, the Tarbert Majorettes, competitions, catamaran tours of the Loch Fyne, stalls, raft races, Ladies vs Gents Football Match, the Seafood Trail, street entertainers, the Sealife Exhibition, Festival Queen’s Carnival Parade and the Campbeltown Pipe Band performances. Children at the festival will most definitely not be bored, with the Children’s Balloon Parade, trampolines, bouncing castles, giant buzz wire, face painting, balloon modeling, and circus skills classes.

The festival comes to an end on Sunday, 8 July 2008, with the Beer on the Pier event. Children will be amused by the activities arranged for them, while the adults enjoy a cold one and listen to the upbeat sounds of the live open air concert. This year, a group of magnificently talented people will be entertaining the crowd, including The Macdonald Brothers, DeVille, Esther O’Conner and Euan and Peter. The Tarbert Seafood Festival is going to be a music, entertainment and seafood extravaganza that is not to be missed.
