Scottish Music Awards

The Scottish Music Awards were created to honor those who contribute to the music industry and continue the musical heritage of Scotland. Various categories of the Scottish Music Awards see to it that all genres are included in the ceremony, looking at all musicians and bands, not only the big names in the industry. These unique awards also assist in developing different genres and promoting their music to the public and on the international market.

The Scottish Music Awards are going to be an annual event, with the inaugural ceremony taking place on 4 September 2011. The listing for nominations will be released this year. The various categories for the awards are as follows: Male Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, New Artist/Group of the Year, Jazz Recording of the Year, Roots Recording of the Year, Adult Alternative, Alternative/Indie Rock Recording of the Year, Folk/Traditional Recording of the Year, Cover/Function Band of the Year, Tribute Band of the Year, Rock Recording of the Year, Loud/Metal Recording of the Year, Punk Recording of the Year, Blues Recording of the Year, Alternative Country Recording of the Year, New Country Recording of the Year, Rap/Hip Hop Recording of the Year, Electronic Recording of the Year, R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, Instrumental Recording of the Year, SMA Lifetime Achievement Award, Female Vocalist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year, Special Instrumentalist of the Year, Guitarist of the Year, Drummer of the Year, Bassist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Local Group of the Year by the People’s Choice, Record of the Year and the Scottish Recording of the Year by People’s Choice.

The awards will be hosted in the Barrowland Ballroom, and artists such as Nicola Cassells have been requested to perform at this prestigious event. The Scottish Music Awards hope to cast a spotlight on the country’s music industry and allow the world to notice the magnificent talents of artists such as Cassells. Cassells will now be one of the elite, which in previous years have included the likes of Simple Minds and Ray Fox, to perform at the well known Barrowland Ballroom.
