Glasgow International Piping Festival

The Glasgow International Piping Festival is known as one of the most energetic and entertaining festivals in Scotland, and this year Glasgow will come alive with sound of music between the eleventh and the seventeenth of August 2008. Musicians from across the world congregate to bring festival goers the best that piping has to offer, with street performances, concerts, workshops, classes and other amazing events filling the festival schedule. Glasgow, Scotland, is the place to be in August, taking visitors on a journey of discovery, education, entertainment and fun.

There are many events and performances to look forward to such as Border Pipe Making with Nigel Richard, The Warning Collection Book Launch, Family Fun Day, Masters Drumming Recital – A Tribute to Alex Duthart, Pipes of Peace, International Quartet Competition, Reedmaking Workshop, Scottish Gourmet Night, RSPBA World Pipe Band Championship, Glenfiddich Whiskey Tasting, Guided Museum Tour, Barrel Making and Whiskey Display, Masters Solo Invitational Piping Championships, Todd’s Bar Piping Recital Challenge, Garvie Bagpipes Pipe Idol, Art Exhibition Recitals, Piping in the Square and Lunchtime Recitals.

A large variety of artists will also be attending the Glasgow International Piping Festival, and those in attendance can get ready to see the likes of Allan MacDonald, Angus Maccol, Chris Armstrong, Deaf Shepherd, Fergus Muirhead, Gemma Donald, James McKenzie, Margaret Dunn, Pipedown, Red Hot Chili Pipers, Simon Frasier University Pipe Band, Toronto Police Pipe Band, Skerryvore, Rough Tides, Old Blind Dogs, Jori Chisholm, Jack Lee, Ally Henderson, Chris Armstrong and many more, in live action during the festival.

Various centers and establishments across Glasgow have opened their doors as venues for the festival, and include The National Piping Center, The Barrowlands, Glasgow Royal Concerts Hall, The Festival Club, George Square, Hutcheson’s Hall and The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Each day of the festival there is a jam packed list of events taking place at these venues, and visitors will be kept entertained every minute of every day.
