  • Moving to Edinburgh

    Hello

I am from Spain and I have decided moving to Edinburgh,
    probably next year.

I am a software engineer, is it difficult to find a job
there? What about the salary? Any place to look for?

Concerning accommodation, first I will hire a flat or something. If everything goes ok, I finally will buy.
    Is the accommadation expensive?

    Any other suggestion?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hola Juanjo,
I would like to say that Spanish people are always welcome in Edinburgh. The more the better and I can practice my very limited Spanish. I can only speak in present tense though. There are lots of Spanish in Edinburgh.
Employment in Edinburgh is good at the moment but I think it may be quite competitive in the software industry.
Accommodation to rent can be expensive but it is easy to find somewhere good. It's cheaper to share a flat(from around 200 a month). But if you want to live alone it is much more expensive to rent (300+). It is cheaper to buy a flat if you want to live alone (I live in the city for about 200 a month). It will be very easy for you to find a good place to live though.
Good luck (and say goodbye to the Spanish sunshine and hello to the cold Edinburgh wind)

Don't worry if you can speak Spanish only in present tense. I think it could be very difficult to learn all spanish tenses, it is not easy even for us.

I will move with my girlfriend, so we want to rent a flat only for us. And if it is cheaper to buy, then buy something.

You say you are living in Edinburgh, but renting or do you have your own flat?

I don't know the winter in scotland yet, but here in Spain I rather prefer winter than summer. I supposed it will be possible to ski in scotland isn't it?

            Extra work

Hi Juango, if you are looking for extra work outside of your software engineering you could apply to SALT Edinburgh (http://www.saltedinburgh.co.uk) to teach Spanish. SALT are a Spanish lessons academy in Edinburgh for all levels from beginner to advanced.

Hahaha, it's so funny reading this. In fact I didn't make it to move to Edinburgh at that time but I'm decided to do it within the next months.

I have returned to the forum to look for some information but I couldn't imagine that I was going to use my old post for this.

In any case, I will try to look for those typical questions by myself (flat renting, jobs...) and in case I don't find answers I will ask again here.

I'm glad to be back here :-)
