  • Myself + girlfriend toying with the idea of moving after graduating college

    Hello everyone,

This is still a few years off, but my girlfriend and I have toyed with the idea of moving to Scotland for a few years (or longer) after we graduate college. We are both American. I will have a Bachelors in Computer Science and she will have a Masters in Library Science.

Could anyone point us toward some good reading / tell us whether or not these degrees will qualify us for specialty work (I think that's what it's called) and/or general pros/cons to living in Scotland vs the US?

Mostly just gathering info for a "maybe"

    Hello

Information on visa requirements are all available on UK Border Agency | Home Page. Including those professions that are in short supply at present. Sadly, I don't think either librarians or IT professionals are presently on the list. However, who can say they won't be in the future? The lists are updated regularly.

Unless you have close familial ties to the UK, or to another EU country, which would allow dual nationality, the road to foreigners obtaining visas is almost closed nowadays.

If you have specific questions about Scotland, or the UK in general, the few of us who are actually from the UK will be happy to try to help. This is an American-owned site
