  • Looking for my clan

Hi, does anyone know anything about the Farr clan? I am also looking for other Farr's. I am also a Scott clan member, looking for them too!

    Hello
As far as I know, Farr is not a clan - but it is the name of a place in Caithness which may be where your family originated?

The name itself is from the Norman name Farrar, which was introduced into England at the time of the Norman Conquest in 1066. The name seems to have been centered in Yorkshire.

Not all names in Scotland are clans or even septs of clans.

Hi there Jason, you might wish to post in the Clans forum. There may be some who visit there who may not come in the new members section, who may offer you some additional help.

Yorkshire, not too Farr from Scotland!

According to tourist sites there are Farrs and Farr Bay in a few places, including Caithness, Invernessshire and Sutherland.

Pfft, tourist sites. Farr, Caithness is Farr, Sutherland. It's the beach at Bettyhil. Farr, Invernesshire, is near Moy, and I'm not aware of any others in the Highlands off the top of my head. Farr, without further details, usually means Farr, Sutherland - just like Newcastle without further details usually means Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, and not any of the other Newcastles in England.
