  • Scottish Romance Novels

Who reads them and who are you reading now. Any favorite authors who write them? Let's share and discuss. I am currently reading Knight Triumphant by Shannon Drake. Gives a lot of history of Scotland back in the 14th century, but there are the steamy parts too! Yum!

I'm reading my first Scottish Romance novels... because a few people at this website recommended Diana Galbaldon. Man is she popular! Now that i'm reading her everyone on earth seems to have read her. The first book is Outlander, and i'm on the second book in a series that currently has 5. They are what my friend Susan would call "bodice rippers," ...and quite literally as the heroine gets her blouse ripped in the first 50 pages i think. But i've noticed men are reading this book too and enjoying it. Diana has a talent for detail and history, as well as adventure and um, erh... steamy-ness!

Hi Holly! I think I know you from Piggie's penpals thread. Great to have you here!

I have been trying to get Diana Gabaldon's books, but no luck! I only live an hour from the woman and you would think I could! lol! I went on Amazon.com and they were so expensive and plus shipping! so I may have to go to the Barnes and Noble to get her books. I hear her book Outlander is the very best.

I finished my Shannon Drake, Knight Triumphant and it was excellent. Gives a lot of Scottish history as well as a very nice and hot love story!

Now I am reading The Legend by Kathleen Givens which all takes place in Scotland in the time frame of 1689. I love Scottish romance historicals. I heard that you cannot get better than Diana Gabaldon's! Keep in touch and let me know how you like it.

        AHHHHH!!!

I've got the solution for you! You can go to my favorite website!... It's where i got my Galbaldon books...

        http://www.half.com

It's an online used bookstore (cd's and dvd's and other stuff too!). It's called half.com because most of the books are half-off or more. Some are new but discounted books. Let me see if i can get you a coupon...

Holly! That is very sweet of you to offer that. I will write you and give you my email addy.

My book, The Legend, by Kathleen Givens is going very well. So far nobody's bodice has been ripped! But I see it coming in the near future. She has already met her Highlander and he's a handsome one at that, of course.

hey! I didn't know that men were reading these books too! I always said they should!

Now are the Diana Gabaladon's books set in a series with the Outlander being the first? In which order are they to be read?

Thank you for giving me that website. That is really cool for me cause I live in a small town and the nearest big cities are an hour to an hour and a half to a used book store which is where I have been buying all my books. So that website would be a godsend to me!

Thanks a bunch. HOw's the artwork coming along? I am doing a commission portrait right now. See you here or in Piggie's!

Desert rose, from Memory the Daina Gabaldon Books go in this order:

Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager and The Fiery Cross.

I know The Fiery cross was the last one out of the four, it been a 4-5 years since i read these books but i think thats right. I heard a few years ago that she was writing another book in this series... So if anyone hears about it please let me know.! I keep checking the bookstores

I borrowed Outlander from a friend of my sisters, i couldn't wait for the next one that she was reading and was then going to my sister, so i just went and bought it. I'm not usually into romance novels, but i find it hard to put Diana's books down.

Hey Bubleduck! Thanks for joining me over here where we can discuss Scottish romance.....sigh!

I LOVE Karen Marie Moning. I have read both The Kiss of the Highlander and The Dark Highlander. I loved the Dark Highlander the best! Whoa! I literally could not put that book down! What a hot book from start to finish! She has two other books I want to get too.

I have not heard of Deveraux or Janet Chapman so I have added them to my typed out list of Scottish romance writers. When I go to the used bookstore I take my list with me and stock up! lol

Right now I am reading The Legend by Kathleen Givens! Very good book and I am having a hard time putting that book down. However, I am kind of slow reading a book cause I am involved in other things such as artwork and this dang computer! lol

                      Keep the lists coming!

                      What are you reading now?

Hi Chelle! So good to see you here! May I suggest before you give up on romance novels to read Karen Marie Moning's books! They are really hot and the Highlanders are the perfect specimens of men and the only ones who can please a woman! I think you will really enjoy them.

I just bought the Diana Gabaldon books so I really anxious to read them. Thanks for giving me the order to read them in! Take care! Speak soon!

One of Pinkerton's finest, Jared's chasing the very same killer, and Mac is sure that, together, they can caputer this elusive time traveler. She's more than willing to risk her life for this dangerous mission, yet after a night of searing passion in Jared's arms, will she be willing to risk her heart?....ohhhh very funny and interesting book, highly recommend it!

                            Oh Wow!

Thanks Bubleduck! That sounds like a real good and hot book! I have friend who is really into time-travel big time. I will have to share this book you are reading with her. This is actually a new world for me. I never read a romance novel in my life until a few months back I was in the store and saw The Scottish Bride by Catherine Coulter. I was hooked and now I am hooked on Scottish romance! Plus, I love the history of Scotland entailed into the books as well. Knight Triumphant did a lot of that.

Tell me all the different authors you have read regarding Scottish Romance. So far I have read the following:

Julie Garwood: The Bride, The Wedding, Ransom.
Karen Marie Moning: The Kiss of the Highlander, The Dark Highlander
                            Shannon Drake: Knight Triumphant
                            Catherine Coulter: The Scottish Bride
                            Kathleen Givens: The Legend
