  • Daniel, Duncan or something else?

Please let me know if this isn't the appropriate place to post this message.

An ancestor of mine who by 1670 was call Daniel Forbush in the American colonies origionally had the surname Forbes. I have read in an obscure source that Daniel could be used for Duncan. First, I'd like to know if this is true. Then I would like to know if there are other nicknames or translations for Daniel. Does anyone know. Daniel does not seem to be a very common Scotish name, at least in the 1600s.

Daniel and Duncan as far as I'm aware are two distinct names and I've never heard Daniel being used for Duncan.Someone called Daniel could possibly be known as Danny or Dan.
