  • Translation Please!

Both my Grandparents came from Scotland. My Grandmother from Edinburgh and my Grandfather from Scotland. My Dad recently passed away at 96 years of age. One of the items he left me was a medal won by my Great Grandfather whose name was John Louttit. The back of the medal reads C.H.R. won by John Louttit Team Medal 1879. The front of the medal reads "Clanna Nan Gaidheal Ri Guaillibha A Cheile 105th L.R.V." If someone could translate for me I would greatly appreciate.

Quite literally it means "Children of the Gaels by( or next to) each others shoulders"...but the more natural way to say it would be "Children of the Gaels shoulder to shoulder"

( in other words..supporting each other)

BTW Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad.
