    Thanks for that! Being miles away from any native speaker or even a second language speaker, and having had to learn the IPA for school anyway, this will be a big help.

    I suggest you buy "Scottish Gaelic in Three Months". You'll find the IPA in it fiendish enough.

    Gaidlig phonetics

    Does anyone know where (preferably on-line) I could find the IPA symbols for Gaelic? I realise there will be dialectal differences but there are recognised sets for other languages. It would make on-line learning easier. I've found some sites with audio but it's not always easy to hear exactly what the sounds are and the IPA provides universal phonetics based on physiological and anatomical processes. Thanks!
