I've been taking advice on the right things to eat
Since shortly before I was born
From the National dried milk and the cod liver oil
    To powdered rhinoceros horn
In these days they tell us to lay off the starches
    The sugar, potatoes and bread
Now they've done a U-turn, tell us bread and potatoes
Will give us the fibre we need

So I've made up my mind that the menu's designed
By the experts just only for me
No trained dietitian or general practitioner
Dictates what I'll have for my tea
Brown bread with the low fat please thinly spread on
May be healthier than a meat pie
But who wants to grow old eating St. Ivel Gold
I'd would rather taste butter and die

    Cholesterol, Cholesterol
My chance of surviving are small
But I'll not get a dose of Anorexia Nervosa
    Cause I love my cholesterol

Now the thing that has brought this affair to a head
Is a good hearted Hatfield campaign
I just said 'What's that?'and the doc had his needle
Sucking blood out of my handiest vein
Two weeks later they measured my height and my weight
And took my blood pressure and all
The computer said 'Mate, to survive at your weight
You would need to be seven feet tall'
But I'm not going to take the suggestions they're make
About changing the food that I eat
Cutting out cheese and no chips if you please
No chocolate, no ice cream, no meat
Oh they tell you to give up these goodies below
And they promise you pie in the sky
Well semi - skimmed milk might diminish my bulk
But I'll take double cream till I die

    cho: Cholesterol, Cholesterol
My chance of surviving is small
The cream I consume that could lead to my doom
    But I love my cholesterol

Now it's all right for you that smoke 40 a day
Or spend every night in a bar
You can tell the health visitor you'll cut it down
She'll say 'What a fine fellow you are'
But when I tell her I'd never smoked in my life
And I was teetotal to boot
She said 'Go away there is nothing to do
You've no vices that you can cut out
Now I don't mind them probing in my haemoglobin
If it's just for a case history
But it puts the health visitor into a tizzy
It's her duty to try and save me
She says 'Fresh fruit and yoghourt's a lovely dessert
Why don't you give it a try
But I don't give a hoot for a yoghourt and fruit
I'll have Black Forest gateaux and die

    Cholesterol, Cholesterol
My chance of surviving is small
The way that I dine 'em is cause for angina
    But I love my cholesterol

author not mentioned but I *think* Adam MacNaughtan

LOL...Celyn, you are devine!! That is a GREAT response to my earlier 'post' (Y'know, I send in all these suggestions. They are just THAT: SUGGESTIONS; I've altered my diet some, but, I,too, like my bad habits...and I will NOT tell you what THEY are! ) Seriously...we DO need to keep our good health---it's SO MUCH better than poor health...

Ladies, I loved both of your posts. I found an article that may raise eyebrows on the subject. It definitely gives us something to think about.

Want to kill yourself trying to AVOID HEART DISEASE?

Then just obey the Food Police and eat a VERY LOW-FAT DIET

I've been cautioning my readers about this for years and now I'm even hearing agreement from the Chairman of the Nutrition Committee of the American Heart Association. Even he now admits that a very low-fat diet can be harmful to many people! So unless you've actually been tested and found to have a very specific condition called "pattern B LDL," be careful to get enough animal fat in your diet.

At this point patients often ask me,"But how can I keep my cholesterol down?" Well, maybe you should be more concerned about getting it higher. Because...

LOW CHOLESTEROL can be much deadlier than high cholesterol

Here too, even the American Heart Association is now admitting...

LOW CHOLESTEROL CAN TRIGGER THE DEADLIEST KIND OF STROKE. It's called a "massive stroke," and it happens when blood vessels in your brain are so weak, they burst open.
EVEN MODERATELY LOW CHOLESTEROL LEVELS can raise your risk of these strokes. By this, I mean under 200. Yet many doctors routinely prescribe cholesterol-lowering drugs if it's over 200!

No wonder the British Medical Journal recently announced:

When they actually looked at the figures, guess what? Folks with lower cholesterol were just about as likely to develop heart disease as those with higher levels. It simply doesn't matter. So what's the real cause of heart disease? Well, for one thing:

Too little RED MEAT in your diet

See how pleasant real health can be? Your friends might say "YOU'RE NUTS," but the actual biochemistry behind my EAT LIKE A HUMAN diet is now endorsed by just about every serious heart researcher.

You see, of all the different substances they can measure in your blood, the deadliest risk factor for heart disease is not cholesterol, but a chemical called HOMOCYSTEINE. Because...

Cholesterol doesn't do diddly unless it "catches" on a ridge or a pit in your artery walls. And the secret cause of these "cholesterol traps" is homocysteine. Too much homocysteine and your arteries corrode like a rusty pipe.

But it's so easy to cut down your homocysteine levels! Three vitamins do the trick quickly, including vitamins B6 and B12. And by far the richest source of these vitamins is...

        You got it. Red meat.

It's really easy. Starting tomorrow, drink no tap water. Not because of industrial pollution, but because of chemicals that "health authorities" are adding to your water. For example...

People who warned against FLUORIDATION used to be ridiculed, but guess what? In Scandinavia, in fact all of Europe, and nearly every other medically advanced nation, they have now banned the practice.

Know why? Because fluoride makes your body absorb extra aluminum. And where does the aluminum go? Your brain. And what metal shows up alarmingly in the brains of Alzheimer's victims? You guessed it. (Hmm... Maybe our health authorities have been drinking too much water?)

If you always do what you always did
Then you'll always get what you always got

          Safe water

I use a water filter (jug type), does that help cut out flouride and chlorine??
