  • last name Britton

Hello Mr. Marhar and everyone else who reads these boards.
I am trying to contact a great aunt, who supposedly knows a wee bit of my family history. But until then, I just have a simple question.

My grandfather's last name was Britton. We assumed that meant he was English. But when I was in Edinburgh, a few people I was talking with thought that the last name Britton, spelled in that manner, was French.

I'm not looking for some family tree right yet, but I was just wondering if you think I'm looking in the rigth country even!

So what does it sound like to you? French? English?
    Thanks guys!
    Rachel
