I'd like to trace my Scots ancestors back a ways. My maiden name was Taylor and my father's grandfather (my great great g-father) immigrated to Alabama in the US back in the early 1800's. Any ideas of where I could start? Just don't really know how to begin.

    Can anyone out there help?

    Thanks!

    Dear Cshursen
Your ancestry I understand back to your Gt Gt Grandfather is American. So
your search must start in American records, we do not know how much information
is given on your Birth-Marriage or Death Certificates. But these certificates will
provide you with the correct date, names etc.
You could start with your Parents, their dates of birth and marriage ( I do hope that
they are still alive ) list their children. Then go back to their parents and do likewise
and keep going back that way.
There is also the IGI ( International Genealogical Index) site which may be helpful to
you the address is < http://www.familysearch.org/default.asp? . If you let me have
your e-mail address I will send you a copy of the Family Sheet Chart that we use
Is there a Family history Society in your area, they could be very helpful. Ask at your
    local library.

    Happy hunting
