I seem to recall people saying that you can get it in some 'British Speciality' food stores, but I suspect that it is not widely available.

Food: well, shortbread, of course, malt whisky, clootie dumplings, selkirk bannocks, Dundee cake, lots of local sweeties. All of the above are usually packaged strongly enough to survive a journey. BUT, I can't be sure what you'd be allowed to take into the country. I know, from personal experience, that Australia are VERY strict on foodstuffs being brought from overseas.

Irn Bru should be ok, but no " fresh " food, or anything which can contain germs dead or alive.

I think I've seen Irn Bru in certain stores (US) but by all means, it's not common. I gather it depends where your friends/relative live, near a big city or in the boonies.

I am reliably informed that you can get it in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I've also seen it in Russia and New York.

I seem to remember on the BBC news a while back that US President Clinton was photographed drinking a can of Irn Bru which I thought was rather amusing as well as making me proud of Scotland!
