  • Looking For Donnithorne-Thomas Family History

I am reserching my wifes family tree. Can find her great-grandfather, Carl Donnithorne-Thomas born December 03,1888. His father and mother were James Donnithorne-Thomas and Frances Theadore. That is all I have except the names of Carls brothers and sisters. Can anyone help in this matter?

The Donnithorne-Thomas family was in London for a vacation?where great grandpa was born. He was gased in WWI and while in the hospital in London met an Irish Girl , Violet Crips-Villiers from Galway, Ireland. They married, had a baby girl they named Peggoty Donnithorne-Thomas. Peggoty died as an infant on the ship to Canada whilst the family was immigrating. Because of this death, they spoke of their past. My wifes grandmother was born a few years later in 1920 in Canada but she doesn,t know the exact time of the immigration either. I have very little to go on but I hope that you may be able to help. Thanks for the reply

You say that Great grandad was London born ,if this is so then his birth will have been registered there. so you can trace his birth certificate which will give his parents names which will make it easier to trace the family in the 1881 census. The name Donnithorne is from Cornwall, England.

The registry Office can be found at
        http://www.pro.gov.uk

You may have to search for these people with the hyphen removed as the mothers maiden name was sometimes used as a middle name and later it was hyphenated
The name Charles could also be also be altered to Carl as it was a fashionable name at the time If you find out any more details please get back to me
