gold panning perthshire scotland uk [14:16]
the bigger gold flakes where higher up than the the smaller bits, must have been washed down stream recently after the winter rains. the largest gold flakes i have found have been at the side of small burns in the moss on the river Gary up from calvine, further up from here at turrerich burn. the biggest nugget was about half the size of a thumb about 5 miles north on a ploughed field laying on the surface, still trying to get permission to return there. 1 days panning for the fakes on the rock, about a week at the lead hills 48 grams, tyndrum for the small nuggets in the tube if only you could get a jcb to move some big boulders out the way ? £££. quickest way to check if there's gold is find some moss at or in the river and pan that as the gold always gets caught in it

Hawick is world famous for its knitwear, particularly cashmere, and is well known to rugby enthusiasts. Its annual Common Riding is ranked as one of the worlds best parties alongside The Rio Mardi Gras in Rough Guides World Party book because it combines the thrills of Pamplonas Fiesta de San Fermin with the concentrated drinking of Munichs Oktoberfest. The house was originally called Thornwood and was the private home of the Oliver family, built in 1870. These entrepreneurs of the new industrial age tastefully influenced the many distinctive architectural features, from the thistle and rose ceilings of the reception rooms to the Russian pine shutters and doors throughout the ground floor. The attention to detail in the design and finish is a testament to the skilled local craftsmen that created this fine building. The Hodgson family acquired Mansfield House in 2009 and they continue the restoration and improvements to the hotel. Public areas are already being altered and new bathrooms are scheduled for winter 2009. The gardens have been gradually restored to their former glory and the wooded hillside that surrounds the hotel ...

Dundonald Links, Ayrshire, Scotland [02:04]
The West coast of Scotland is famous for its stunning championship links and Dundonald sits right up there alongside the very best of them. Opened in 2003, Kyle Phillips designed a modern day classic links which has the feel of a course 100 years older and offers challenges and enjoyment in equal measure. Dundonald Links is located at the very heart of Ayrshire's golf coast near Open venues Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry, just 10 minutes from Prestwick Airport and half an hour from Glasgow. Its coastal setting and fabulous condition makes it ideal for summer and winter golf.
