Dunnottar Castle Stonehaven North East Coast Scotland May 19th [01:05]
Tour Scotland video of Dunnottar Castle. A windy day at the ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland on the north-east coast of Scotland, about two miles south of Stonehaven. The surviving buildings are largely of the 15th to 16th centuries, but the site is believed to have been an early fortress of the Dark Ages. Dunnottar played a strategic role in the history of Scotland from the Middle Ages through to the Enlightenment, because of the location: it overlooked the shipping lanes to northern Scotland; and is situated on a narrow coastal terrace that controlled land access to the coastal south via Portlethen Moss to Aberdeen during the medieval period. Both the Jacobites and Hanoverians used Dunnottar Fortress. In 1689 during Viscount Dundee's campaign, fourteen suspected Jacobites from Aberdeen were held in the fortress for approximately a year, including George Liddel, professor of mathematics. In 1715 the Dunnotar cannons were utilized by the Jacobites; following this uprising all the possessions of the Earl Mariscal were forfeit, and the fortress was dismantled three years later.

This Fire Truck is Also a Guest House [01:02]
Stay Inside a Historic Fire Truck - as part of the travel series by GeoBeats. For those who want to venture beyond a typical hotel room, give the Beer Moth truck a try! The Beer Moth is a retired fire service truck, belonging to Walter, the owner of a guest house in Scotland. The 1956 truck came from the Manston Fire Museum in Kent. Inside, you'll find an oak floor, a Victorian double bed, seating areas, and there's even a fireplace. You also get your own kitchen. Price starts from about $100 a night for this unique rural experience. It seems like more and more of such unusual rental places are coming up around the world. Spheres, found in Canada and elsewhere, they are suspended from a web of rope and offer you a great way to connect with nature. Then there's the Dog Bark Park Inn in Cottonwood, United States -where you get to stay inside a dog. Still not unique enough for you? How about a stay in a windmill from the 18th century? What's the strangest place you have stayed at?

Great Britain V in Scotland 24-26 April 2012 - 46115 45305 45407 46233.mpeg [05:18]
Some of the Scottish tours of the Great Britain V rail tour as always well organised and a big thanks to the staff crew and the organisers! 1. 46115 Scots Guardsman coasts downhill through Carmyle station Glasgow on 1Z42 from Inverness to Glasgow, 24 April 2. 45305+45407 passing Barassie on 1Z47 the Glasgow (Barnhill) to Stranraer leg 25 April. 3. 46233 passes first Irvine then New Cumnock on 1Z53 the Glasgow (Barnhill) to Carlisle leg on 26 April. Thanks to Jake Nicky and Scott for the company and banter. Thanks also to Clark C, Don for the company on 26 April. The wind on the 25 & 26 April was particularly strong and it was difficult to stay steady in the open spots we chose to film. However it was great to film steam across the border once again and particularly Duchess of Sutherland on the G&SW line, a real nostalgic run for me personally. The Duchesses were surely Stanier's masterpiece?!

Walk up the Cobbler, Scotland (HD) [02:24]
Just wanted to do a quick test of a cheap camera I bought for £25 (used) on ebay. Forgot to charge it so it ran out of juice by the time we reached the top, and I wasn't too creative in taking shots since we were in a hurry. But this shows what can be achieved with even the cheapest and simplest of cameras and a pocket tripod. Camera was a Panasonic HM-TA1. Main problem was the strong winds coupled with the lack of optical stabilisation, which resulted in jittery images. I normally use an EX3 or Z1, which are in a slightly different league ;)
