Ivan Prepares For His Kayak Trip 08 June 2007.MOV [20:47]
Unedited, hand-held, made in one continuous take. Ivan did not realise he was being filmed - he thought I was taking occasional still pictures. The film is of Ivan testing out the home made trailer (using solid pram wheels I had rescued from a skip); the route to the canal through long grass along the canal bank from the back of the house, across Allan Park Bridge to the other side of the canal (access from the other side was impossible because of reeds); his various adaptations etc. He needed to do this without assistance since he would likely have none while he was away on a three day camping/kayaking trip, the following week, in the PBK20 double touring kayak, along the Union Canal from Craiglockhart in Edinburgh to the Falkirk Wheel (Scotland). The original plan was to travel to Bowling Basin in Glasgow along the Forth and Clyde Canal after going through the basin at Falkirk but this would have been impractical since there is so much portaging involved and the kayak is very heavy for one person, especially with camping gear and provisions, PBK kayaks were designed by Percy Blandford.
