4 Days Vacation in Dunoon Scotland [09:40]
For our 4 day break in Dunoon, we drove our car onto the Western Ferries ship at Gourock and about 10 minutes later after crossing the Firth of Clyde, we arrived at Hunters Quay, Dunoon. This is near the inlet to Holy Loch, used by the US as a submarine base for many years, and the large mansion at the ferry terminal was used as the base for the officers. A short drive south takes us to the centre of Dunoon where the old pier is the arrival point for the passenger ferry. Both ferries are very fast, with regular sailings and no booking is necessary. Buses wait for the ferry to arrive to whisk them off to various towns and villages of the peninsular, or you may wish to enjoy this area first with a visit to the castle museum and grounds, play a game of crazy golf or just hang out on the beach. The Argyle Hotel is here too, with lovely hanging gardens decorating the bandstand area. Around the corner are the Tourist offices where the staff are always ready to help and offer advice on your stay. At the end of this block, 100 yards away is the Leisure pool with a great slide. The main shopping street is just yards away with a variety of shops to serve tourists and locals alike, with the Cooperative store and Morrison's at the Northern end of the High Street. Dunoons answer to the B&Q DIY chain is a small shop called Dae it Yersel. Travel south about 3 miles to the end of the peninsular to Toward Point and Castle Toward. MV Clyde Clipper Embarking Passengers [01:16]
The stern gangway of Clyde Marine Services 'Clyde Clipper' in a summer thunder downpour , when she was leased for the new Argyll Ferries service between Gourock and the Clyde resort of Dunoon. The lovely sunshine in the morning completely disintigrated into a thunder storm by 3pm. The narrow one-man gangway seemed to narrow for today's child's buggies and had to be lifted clear of the railings , a safety issue maybe?. The ferry came astern onto the linkspan , which was raised to let people get aboard the vessel.
