This Scottish is situated in a small hamlet just to the south of Stonehaven and west of the extensive Dunnottar Wood. The church lies in a large graveyard, which has been extended to the north. There is a long history of Christianity here, with a medieval church built in 1297 and a likely 5th century church established nearby. The only remains of the medieval church is the Marischal Aisle, a private burial aisle which was rebuilt in 1914. The church of Dunnottar was dedicated to St Bridget and was built in the the late 14th century to replace the former parish church at Dunnottar Castle
