The boat trip from Elgol across Loch Scavaig to Loch Coruisk and the base of the Cuillin has long been hugely popular with tourists. The scenery is simply stunning. Elgol, Scottish Gaelic, Ealaghol, is a village on the shores of Loch Scavaig towards the end of the Strathaird peninsula on the Isle of Skye, in the Scottish Highlands. Scotland Day 9 - Isle of Skye [08:00]
After Eilean Donan Castle, we crossed the bridge to the Isle of Skye for still more unimaginably fabulous scenery. We stayed just outside the village of Portree, and headed out from there to the northernmost tip of the island. Stopped for lunch at the Flodigarry House Hotel, then around the peninsula to the village of Uig. We stopped at the grave of Flora MacDonald (who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape after the failed Jacobite Rising of 1745-46) and then ventured into the rocky crags of the Quirang. Next morning we stopped at the Talisker Distillery where Ann sampled the wares, and then we found our way to the Faerie Pools before heading down the road to Fort William.
Scotland - Portree, Isle of Skye [01:49]
During our three day visit to Skye we stayed in the attractive town of Portree. Located on the east side of the island, Portree has lots of accommodation and restaurants to choose from which makes it a great base while on the island. Our B&B, The Pink Guest House, was located right on the harbor. Next door the Pier Hotel had an outstanding little restaurant that served freshly caught fish. Both The Pink Guest House and the Pier Hotel restaurant are highly recommended.
