Scotland - Coldingham to Fast Castle Head - Sea Kayaking. [08:53]
This coast has been huge source of inspiration, and ambition since 1991.My first visit was in the Easter, keen to discover what all this fuss about St Abbs was.Typical for Easter,we didn't find out - a huge swell put paid to that.Really frustrating, totally flat calm, and windless, but a huge swell. But already a seed had been sown, and it bore fruit in the May,in the form of a simple shore dive off the harbour wall.Big Green Carr, and the Amphitheatre, was the chosen dive.Upon entry I was immediatly astounded, never had I seen such water clarity, and beauty, rich marine life and scenery,o the scenery! has to be seen in person to fully appreciate. It was love at first sight, and guess what? it got better. The next dive was the famous Cathedral Rock a superb natural arch, the light streams through the salty gin, shoals of fish patrol, the rock walls are adorned with soft corals - a world away from Blackpool, where my Great Nan from Yorkshire declared "The turds are as thick as yer arm!" And so it is above the surface,if you look across the bay from the harbour wall,I once saw it described as "Rasberry ripple cliffs tumbling into fizzy lemonade sea" inspirational stuff indeed.Take a short boatride around the "Head" and there is an infinity of supreme diving,Tye's Tunnel being one of many, just roll over the side and away you go anywhere will do.The diving along all this coast is absolutely superb, given some settled weather. From the "Oslofiord" and "Eugena Chandris" wrecks off Tynemouth,to Bass ...
