Charles, born 22nd August 1806, died 5th December 1892, was bishop of Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane. He was twice married, first in 1835 to Charlotte Day, who died in 1839, and secondly in 1846 to Katherine Mary Barter, who died in 1897. He had thirteen children altogether. He was the older brother of Christopher Wordsworth, Bishop of Lincoln.

Reverend Duncan Macfarlan Gravestone Necropolis Glasgow Scotland [00:32]
Tour Scotland video of the Reverend Duncan Macfarlan Memorial gravestone on visit to Glasgow Necropolis. Born in Auchengray in September 1771, The Very Reverend Macfarlan succeeded his father as Minister of Drymen Church in 1792. He became Principal of Glasgow University in 1823 and was made Minister of Glasgow Cathedral in 1824, posts which he held for over thirty years till his death in 1857. Reverend Macfarlan became Dean of Chapel Royal, 1820 to 1824 and was twice chosen to be Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, in 1819 and 1843. Reverend Macfarlan also attended the laying of the Bridge of Sighs foundation stone in 1833. He died in Glasgow on 25th November 1857. This majestic neo-gothic tower was erected in his honour in 1863. Designed by JABell, the bronze profile was by W.Brodie.
