Abandoned 17th Century "Ashgrove House" - Edinburgh, Scotland [04:21]
The house was built by John Baxter (c.1700-c.1770), an Edinburgh master mason who worked with William Adam. He was involved in the construction of many country houses in the 1730's and 1740's. He drew plans and also built houses, and enjoyed the patronage of many well-to-do clients, including Sir John Clerk. His earliest construction was Mavisbank, at Loanhead where he collaborated with William Adam, and later he rebuilt Penicuik House. Originally Mayshade House, it was renamed Ashgrove House by a later owner. It was built as Baxter's own residence, although later owners have modified it substantially. Adjacent to the house is an earlier bothy remodelled into a cottage. It has a carved stone inset, dated MDCCLIII (1753). There is also the remains of a ruined rubble cottage in the garden (NW of main house), now partially re-roofed, and a smaller structure, possibly a privy (E of main house). In the grounds, there are still numerous hawthorn trees, after which part of the adjacent modern housing estate takes its name (Mayshade Road), as does the main road Hawthorne Gardens.

MODEL RAIL SCOTLAND (PART 9) [04:37]
In this part we look at 3 more layouts. Choates Lane, Hyndford & Portchullin. Choates Lane owners i'd like thank in assisting in the shots for filming & showing me round the layout. Set in either east london's industrial area or an industrial area on mainland europe (depending what stock is running). Full length Eurostars are seen running here. Hyndford is set in the Scottish SPT area & a couple of 156's & a 66 are seen here. Portchullin set some where in the highlands, takes us back to BR blue era. The layout has many detailed buildings & great weathering etc. A credit to the layouts builders. In the next part we take a brief look at Bachmann's stand & it's eagerly awaited Blue Pullmann DMU, plus more layouts. Coming next......
