London, England: The Docklands [01:59]
Survey London's skyline (or a Tube map), and it becomes clear that this grand city is shifting east. The thundering heart of this new London is the Docklands...
Scotland Day 7 - Wester Ross - The Scottish Highlands [04:53]
Day 7: we headed west and north from Inverness into the area of the Highlands called "Wester Ross" (according to our map, anyway (not to be confused with "Westeros," the mythical kingdom in "Game of Thrones," etc.). We made it as far as Gairloch and Guinard Bay - still a long way from the northernmost reaches of Scotland, but beautiful and dramatic scenery around every bend. On the way back to Inverness and Castle Stuart we stopped at the ruins of the Beauly Priory on the Black Isle.
My year of walking. 2012. © [04:44]
2012 was the year of my first distance trails. In June I completed Hadrian's wall from Wallsend to Bowness on Solway for the MS Society and in August I did the Dales Way from Ilkley to Bowness on Windermere for the British Lung Foundation. I also had walking weekends in Rothbury, Craster, Budle Bay, Wooler, Berwick on Tweed and Coniston in Cumbria. It was a year of firsts in which I also I completed my first three Wainwrights and bought my first tent which will change the way I approach walking. Wherever you go stay safe, check the weather, plan ahead, let people know where you are going, take maps & compass with your gps and follow the countryside code. It is best to ask permission to camp outside of official campsites although the law for campers is different in Scotland and England. Music: Mendelssohn. A Midsummer Night's Dream, Op. 61 Scherzo. Bertrand Chamayou.
Woods and Forests © [02:47]
Woods and Forests from various walks in the north of England and the Scottish borders over the last three or four years. I had to look this up but apparently the difference between a wood and a forest is to do with the density, a forest is denser than a wood. Wherever you go stay safe, check the weather, plan ahead, let people know where you are going, take maps & compass with your gps and follow the countryside code. It is best to ask permission to camp outside of official campsites although the law for campers is different in Scotland and England. Music: Enchanted Forest. 89Ford
Coast © [03:56]
Images from various coastal walks mainly in the north of England and southern Scotland. When walking on the coast you need to remain aware of tide times in order to avoid becoming cut off. Wherever you go stay safe, check the weather, plan ahead, let people know where you are going, take maps & compass with your gps and follow the countryside code. It is best to ask permission to camp outside of official campsites although the law for campers is different in Scotland and England. Music: Grieg. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1: Morning Mood
