Arran Coastal Way (1) [PRIVATE -Copyright track claim is incorrect] [10:04]
A £25.00 open return from Glasgow enables the return train and Calmac ferry service to Brodick (and up to a month on the island) from where the Arran Coastal Way beckons. Once disembarked, the Way heads along the promenade with immediate views of Goatfell across Brodick Bay. "Gaoda Bheinn" is the highest point on the Isle at 874m (thats 2867ft in old money!) and is one of four Corbetts on the island as well as being the 16th Highest Marilyn in the British Isles. The mountain along with nearby Brodick Castle is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland and the name Brodick comes from the Norse words meaning 'broad bay'. Tourists head to Arran Aromatics and the Island Cheese Company. Arran itself is a small island just 20 miles long and 56 miles round and is located off the south-west coast of Scotland and is approximately a dozen plus miles across the Firth of Clyde thereby making it easily accessible and has been described as "the top of a submerged mountain range". In the Gaelic it means 'peaked island' and the mild climate of the Gulf Stream enables Palm trees to grow there, although they are not true Palms but Palm Lilies, a variety native to New Zealand. The island is cut in half by the Highland Boundary Fault, a geological division that makes the north rugged and hilly and host to some superb mountains, whereas the south is more gentle and lower lying. Often called 'Scotland in miniature', its range and wealth of scenery and coastline was once referred to in days ...

Arran: Lochranza to Corrie [07:48]
Arran: The Isle of Arran itself is located in south-western Scotland, in the Firth of Clyde near Glasgow from where a combined boat and train ticket can be purchased [£20.10 - August 2012, Glasgow Central Station]. Measuring approximately 167 square miles (433 km2) in area, the Island has a population of approximately 5000. Although the seventh largest island in Scotland, Arran is not technically one of the Hebrides, being the southernmost of the Scottish islands. Arran is just 20-miles long and 56-miles round and in the Gaelic means 'peaked island'. Often referred to as 'Scotland in Miniature', Arran offers visitors a compact and easily accessible island that mimics the geology of mainland Scotland, with a sparsely populated and mountainous northern half that contains the Corbetts Beinn Tarsuinn, Cir Mhor, Caisteal Abhail and Goatfell as well as the Graham Beinn Bharrain, with a flatter, more populous southern half. Located close to Glasgow and Scotland's Ayrshire coast, Arran is a popular and easily accessible tourist destination and of course, a walker's paradise, with walks of every single description imaginable. From Brodick an all-day ticket on the 324 bus takes you round to Lochranza and the commencement of the gentle hillwalk over to Laggan to the remote white-painted Laggan Cottage, followed by the resultant easy Coastal Path route to Sannox and then by roadside to Corrie. Lochranza of course is host to the small vehicle ferry that leaves Claonaig, a tiny spot on ...

Isle of Arran [13:26]
Clips of a 75 minute blu-ray video I have made of the beautiful Isle of Arran. It covers most of Arran's picturesque villages and many of the excellent lowlevel walks on the island. Much of the original commentry has been edited to fit with the shortened video - so apologies for any glitches.
