Largs Ayrshire Scotland. Bomb Squad Talks To Clyde Coastguard. (8aug2012) [03:11]
The sun was shining today (unusual when I'm on holiday!), and I was out with a friend. We decided to climb the Haylie Brae near Largs. The local weather hasn't been great recently and we haven't been there in ages. We had radios scanning some of the busier frequencies and overheard this transmission on channel zero, the coastguard frequency (156.000mhz fm). I'm not aware of the full details at time of uploading, but it appears that a fishing boat situated behind the island of Cumbrae had picked up some kind of explosive device in its nets (described on air as "ordinance"). This had been described on air as definately an explosive device (not further decribed) in a previous transmission to Clyde Coastguard by what I assume was a bomb disposal (ordinance?) expert who had been taken to the scene by the Largs lifeboat. A half mile exclusion zone had been set up as well. The video starts with Clyde Coast Guard talking to the bomb disposal/ordinance unit. I filmed a couple of clips as it approaches the Largs lifeboat station where it is met by staff and brought ashore. The plan was to return to the vessel and for the Bomb Disposal/ordinance expert to take the device out to sea in his own boat, to a safer location and perform a controlled explosion. Sadly, due to lack of time we had to leave the hillside and head for home before the team returned to carry out ...

Roslin Glen in the autumn rain [01:53]
Roslin Glen is a wooded Glen with walks following the River North Esk. It is a beautiful and peaceful spot, on the site of a former gunpowder factory. Many of the magazines (gunpowder stores) still stand, as well as some of the old mill buildings. Aside from it's explosive past, Roslin is also well-known for it's Rosslyn Chapeland Rosslyn Castle, around which a number of important battles took place.
