Dunninald Castle Montrose Angus Scotland [00:48]
Tour Scotland video of Dunninald Castle, South of Montrose, Scotland. Dunninald has a history of at least a thousand years. The name is derived from the gaelic, dun a castle and ard, a high place. The first Dunninald was on the cliff high above the North Sea, so the name is a good description of the original site. A second house was built about 1590, to replace the old tower fortalice. By 1819 the second house was some 230 years old and the new owner, Peter Arkley, commissioned James Gillespie Graham to built a new house. This was designed in the gothic revival style and was completed in 1824. James Gillespie Graham specialised in the gothic revival style and built many houses and churches around Scotland. He designed the Glenfinnan Monument in 1815.
Edzell Castle Angus Scotland [01:29]
Tour Scotland video of photographs of Edzell Castle on on visit to Angus. A ruined 16th century Scottish castle, with an early 17th century walled garden. Edzell Castle was begun around 1520 by David Lindsay, 9th Earl of Crawford, and expanded by his son, Sir David Lindsay, Lord Edzell, who also laid out the garden in 1604. The castle saw little military action, and was, in its design, construction and use, more of a country house than a defensive structure. It was briefly occupied by English troops during Oliver Cromwell's invasion of Scotland in 1651. In 1715 it was sold by the Lindsay family, and eventually came into the ownership of the Earl of Dalhousie. A small selection of my personal photographs shot on small group tours of Scotland.
Parish Church Kinfauns Perthshire Scotland [01:29]
Tour Scotland video of photographs of the Parish Church in Kinfauns on visit to lowland Perthshire. There are two churches on this prominent site overlooking the River Tay. The roofless 15th century medieval ruin with Charteris Aisle and the now unused Victorian church designed by Andrew Heiton in 1869. A small selection of my personal photographs shot on small group tours of Scotland.
