2010 Cycling round the Outer Hebrides [03:40]
GASBAGS (Great Ayton & Stokesley Biking & Guzzling Society) cycle round the Outer Hebrides from May 29th to June 4th 2010. We cycled over 200 miles from Barra to South Uist to Benbecula to North Uist to Harris and finally Stornoway in Lewis. Our return trip was by minibus from Stornoway to South Uist then cycling the last 22 miles to Lochboisdale. The weather was excellent with rain on only one day. The wind kept away the midges and we had no midge bites! Everyone we met was very friendly. It was a really enjoyable trip - the Outer Hebrides is well worth a visit. Thanks to Third Sector Lewis for transport for ourselves plus our bikes from Stornoway to Leverburgh, and to Aldas Taxis for transport from Berneray to South Uist

Mountain biking on the frozen Lake of Meneith [04:11]
The Lake of Menteith in Scotland froze over early in 2010. It's a bit of a rare event, I'd seen pictures and heard stories of when it last happened so had to go and check it out, on a bike of course. Thanks to an overnight flurry there was a couple of inches of snow to get a little grip otherwise it would have been near impossile to steer. There were plenty curlers out despite the Bonspiel being cancelled due to health and safety. I'd like to think we were the first ever to mountain bike over to Inchmahone Priory but recon there could have been some other like minded fools back in 2001 when the lake last froze over (you have to go back to 1979 for a big freeze to match this year's ice cube).
