1929 Higland Games Banff Springs Hotel Alberta [03:19]
Footage from my film collection I had digitally transferred from way back in 1929 of the Banff Highland Games. Games held at the Banff Springs Hotel. This was a 3 day event at the end of August including Scottish concerts and special Scottish meals at the hotel as well as standard events. There was always a church service conducted in the open air at the Devil's Cauldron conducted by Ralph Connor (Dr. CW Gordon). These were big events in all aspects. Pipers came from across the country and even a few from Scotland. So too with dancers, travelling long distance by train to attend these gatherings. Up to 8000 people flocked to the town of Banff and the Hotel to be a part of this festival, among the most highly acclaimed North American Highland Games in those years.
Braemar Castle Aberdeenshire Scotland [00:56]
Tour Scotland video of photographs of Braemar Castle on visit to Aberdeenshire. From the Late Middle Ages this Scottish ccastle was a stronghold of the Earls of Mar. The present Braemar Castle was constructed in 1628 by John Erskine, 18th Earl of Mar as a hunting lodge and to counter the rising power of the Farquharsons. An important garrison after the 1745 Jacobite uprising the castle had been attacked and burned by John Farquharson, the Black Colonel of Inverey in 1689. In 1715 the castle was forfeited to the Crown following the Earl of Mar's leadership of the rebellion. The castle and lands were purchased by John Farquharson, 9th Laird of Invercauld. A small selection of my personal photographs shot on small group tours of Scotland.
