Walking with Stoker - Slains "Dracula's" Castle [10:03]
Slains Castle - Inspiration for the setting of Bram Stoker's most famous novel. New footage taken inside the castle and the surrounding area where Stoker visited many times in the late 19th Century There is a counter claim that Whitby Castle in Yorkshire was the real inspiration for for the setting, and while the novelist did also stay in the town briefly as well as doing extensive research into European folklore, his more frequent visits to Slains Castle suggests it having had a greater influence It is located in Cruden Bay, approximately 15 miles north of Aberdeen. The ruins of the original Slains castle lie approximately 3 miles south near the village of Collieston (where bizarrely Lawrence of Arabia lived for some time - perhaps due to its proximity to nearby Newburgh Sands, under which legend has it an entire village is buried) This is also close to Balmedie Sands where American business tycoon Donald Trump plans his new golfing complex
