Great Golf Courses in Dumfries
Dumfries has quite a past of its own, with the slaying of the Red Comyn at the hand of Robert the Bruce in the year 1306 and becoming the hometown of the legendary poet, Robert Burns from the years 1759 to 1796. But amongst the history and the population of approximately 37 000, lies hidden golf courses of wonder and beauty. Some have been known and others are only just being discovered. These courses rank amongst the best courses in Scotland. The Lochmaben Golf Course is a located just outside Dumfries and is known for its wide variety of wildlife that roam the area and the breathtaking views from the fairways. Courses like the Pines Golf Centre offer a good day of golfing and comfortable facilities. But the hidden treasure of Dumfries is the Southerness Golf Club. Its eighteen-hole course is located on the coast and is mostly level and easy to navigate. The course has also been designed with such care, that golfers are hardly aware of others, while enjoying their favorite sport.
The Southerness Course
Southerness Golf Course is a hidden gem on a remote headland that lies in Dumfries and Galloway, the southernmost region of Scotland. Located right on the shoreline of the Solway Firth it offers spectacular views across the coast of Galloway and the Galloway Hills to the west. Look to the south and you see the mountains of the Cumbria and Lake District and the North of England. Southerness is about 14 miles from Dumfries, which is the largest town in the South of Scotland. The golf course is only two hours by car from Glasgow International Airport.
