More political forums?

Hi Kathy (lovely name) and Celyn (another lovely name).

Why is it women get the lovely names in every country and men get the monosyllabic or Bi-syllabic names.

E.G. Aysha or Ali
Deborah or Dave and son...

Actually, that's not why I posted this. I posted this because I want to ask if we can have more politics forums.

Haha, the flattery! But I associate Aysha with either the child wife of Mohammed or with a type of spider. And possibly with some pop music programme on telly in the 1970s.

And Deborah has something to do with bees, doesn't it? I mean, I know bees are good but they're still scary.

I'n not really in favour. If message boards breed too many fora, it all gets muddled, I think. For instance, the three examples you mention are mostly likely to involve interlinked issues. Media bias in how the sleaze is reported (or not reported), in how the polls are carried out, by whom they were commissioned and how their questions were phrased, and how they are reported/not reported, and so on. There are not that many of us showing interest in politics really, so it shouldn't be spread too thinly. (However, presumably more people should be bothered about politics by next May, one might think).

Actually the "politics" forum used to be enormously full of people, often from other message boards really, having great big venomous fights about U.S.A. politics, so the Scottish Politics forum is an improvement. But some good members left, including very good politics mod.

So I tend to favour leaving it is it is for now, but am interested in what everyone else thinks.

TYRANNY!

Actually, I had been pondering female names during the day and had realised that female names are more beautiful.

It would be kinda odd for a woman to scream out Deborah in the throws of passion or Cinderella for that matter.

Yes, I was watching Cinderella today.

I imagine the polysyllabic nature of female names can lead to some ugly creations though.

Esmeralda pops to mind, a bit opulent. Dorothy... not really a cool sounding name.

Daphne... a bit too PG Woodhouse.

Ugly male names...

Sidney... sounds like a soup. Engelbert Humperdink... a Grimmm brothers' character really.

Can't quite imagine a woman screaming out Engelbert, Engelbert, where for art thou Engelbert.

Romeo is nice but a bit Village people these days.

I could go on...

Ah, "Daphne" Never liked the sound of that. One of the Broons, wasn't she? Not sure if she was the blond happy one or the dark haired kind of nae-luck-getting-a lad-one. ALSO, the name sounds like a kind of revolting stuff you feed goldfish with. Mibbe the stuff that was live wee wriggly beasties.

Now, it's not tyranny. (Much though I might enjoy the idea of being big and fierce enough to be a tyrant. Hmm, might work on that idea).

I only said I'm not really in favour and you have my reasons, such as they are. It's entirely up to admin, and let's wait and see what everyone else thinks.

My access to teh interweb tubes will be limited this weekend* so if I am not here, I am not ignoring stuff - just being not here.

* I had intended to visit my parents but now I think I might look for weekend crash course tyrant training.

DAPHNE

Gender: Feminine

Usage: Greek Mythology, English, Dutch

Other Scripts: Δαφνη (Ancient Greek)

Pronounced: DAF-nee (English), DAHF-nə (Dutch) [key]
Means "laurel" in Greek. In Greek mythology she was a nymph turned into a laurel tree by her father in order that she might escape the pursuit of Apollo. It has been used as a given name in the English-speaking world since the end of the 19th century
Laurels are hardy at this time of year... I'm sorry.

I remember Ayshea who presented Lift Off and Lift off With Ayshea. Roy Wood and Wizzard were on it a lot (or even all the time !). Roy Wood used to wear glam-rock make-up including a "zap" type shape on his forehead with contained a large letter A - for Ayshea (awww - they were just good friends. I think Roy Wood wrote See My Baby Jive for her)

As for Daphne, she was the less popular one in the Broons with the perennially bad hair. Maggie was the wee stoater.
