Thumbs down Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle maybe Scotland biggest landmark in the capital has a UK flag on it (Union Jack).

It should have a Scotland flag on it. It kills me looking up everyday to see that.

Sorry had to vent my feelings on that. Discuss if you want...

Why does it 'kill' you, aren't you part of the UK?
(Serious question, I am not trying to pick anything.)

Serious answer: Part of the U.K., well, it's not exactly by choice, Kathy, and I should prefer the Saltire to the Union Flag too. And I would prefer it not be to accorded a lower position than that of the union flag. Nowadays, things have improved a bit, but I do recall when England seemed not to know that the union flag was exactly that, and English football supporters would tend to us use the union flag as though the U.K. meant only England. I'm sure you can see why that sort of thing would become a little bit annoying.

Still, it's worse for the Welsh people, whose flag does not even get a place in that supposedly union flag.

OK, that makes sense.

I've wondered about Wales, what they feel about no representation on the UK flag. Maybe some crazed Welsh national should glue a giant red dragon in the center of the Union flag and send it to parliament!

We, in the States, are supposed to follow certain etiquette when displaying the US flag; spot light if out at night, set on a particular side of a stage or other flag, are there etiquette standards for the UK flag? I understand the Scottish Saltire is flown lower than the UK flag (Which we must do with a state's own flag) but Oregon or any other state isn't it's own country. Would it be punishable to fly the Scottish flag higher or more predominantly that the UK flag? Or use a Saltire larger in size than the Union flag?

Is there a clever way around things?

Edinburgh Castle stands on a rock,
You pay ten bob to see the King's

Cocktail, champagne,
Two an' six a glass,
If ye dinnae like it,
Stick it up yer

Ask no questions,
tell no lies,
I forgot the rest

Then they'd speed up and finish with singing

Roll two tanners,
Two tanners and a bob,
King George never ever ever
Shaved his knob.

When I was a boy, that's what the girls used to rhyme off while they were skipping.
