Question

I will backpacking throughout Scotland in July for two weeks.
Can someone give some advice, hot-spots, anything I should know?
Thank for your help!

rilo,

if you check out some of the other posts here, some of the info will be relevant.

If you are backpacking, what accomodation are you looking for? This can vary from camp sites, youth hostels, B&B or reasonable hotels. If you arrive in Glasgow then head up the A82 Loch Lomondside road heading north through Tarbet, Crianlarich, Tyndrum, Glencoe, Fort William. You then make a choice to go north to Inverness or west to Mallaig (via Arisaig and the Sands of Morar) and on to the Isle of Skye. Once in Skye there's loads to see and then back via Inverness down through Aviemore, Blair Atholl, Perth, Stirling, Edinburgh or Glasgow.
That will give you a variety of wonderful scenery and an option to start, middle and end in a city if that's what you want. The cities have plenty to go for also.

Ponder over these.

HI there,

http://www.syha.org.uk for Youth hostels all over Scotland. They are well orgainised and freindly. Cheap!!

http://www.scotrail.co.uk for different travel tickets valid on trains and ferries for various periods of time. Ideal if you are traveling about Scotland.

By rail :-
Glasgow - Loch lommond (Balloch) 45min
Glasgow - Mallig (ferry to Skye) 5hr 15min
Glasgow - Stirling 25 mins
Stirling - Inverness 3hrs
Stirling - Edinburgh 55mins

Thats just a rough guide of basic journey times. The rail network is a bit like a spiders web centreing on Glasgow and Edinburgh. Head out on one line and use buses to join up with another line to head back an make a round journey over a couple of days. A good map is essential to get an idea on possible routes and transport links.

Have fun !!
