Hiking in October

Hey fellas

I'm about to come for a hiking trip with my tent, arriving Scotland somewhere between Sep 20-25 for about a month. The idea is starting with the west highland way and the great glen way, walking all the way from Glasgow to Inverness. Then, maybe travel around in a more relaxed way, searching interesting short walks and getting to nice places. I have to be in Edinbourgh by Oct 19, for the Bat For Lashes gig, and then a few days in the city and home.

1. What do you say about hiking in this time of year? is it suicidal? is it fine? camps are open? and most of all - is it really important for me to try and come as soon as I can, meaning sep20 and not 25, giving me 5 more sep days in the trek? Or it doesn't matter anymore?

2. when arriving Inverness, let's say Oct 6-10, the leaves me 9-13 days hanging around. what's the best to do from there? Now, I'd like doing the impossible - visiting my Ardbeg brewery in Islay, hiking the Isle of Skye, getting to the old man of Hoy in Orkney, and traveling with ferries between the west islands all together and getting back to Edi...
Too much to do - what would you recommend?

Thanks ahead everyone!

I think you need to check to see where camp sites are along the route you are going to take so I
have searched and found a few for you to look in (I haven't been in them)

ScottishCamping.com - Directory of all campsites and Caravan Parks in Scotland

Campsites in Scotland | Scotland Campsites and Touring and Camping

www.lovecamping.co.uk/campsites/scotland

Some things the Scots will pull you up on:

Ardbeg is not a brewery it is a Distillery !!

Edinburgh not Edinbourgh !!

You really need the input from some Scots that do a lot of walking !!

most if not all the camp sites will be open at that time of year.

it probably the best time to go walking imo but be prepared for scorching heat/high winds/rain/sleet/snow/bitter cold all in the one day.

if i where you id take some device that gives you accurate local weather as when your in the hills it can change rapidly and get quite dangerous if your not prepared for it.

also if your nearest camp site is closed theres not much to stop you just camping anywhere or most farmers will let you camp in one of their fields...just mind n leave no trace that you where there.

Great! You've been helpful. Thanx. I'm arriving Sep 25 and I'm pretty much excited about it.
