weather

we are planning a trip to Scotland in May and are curious about the weather? Weather.com says high mid 50s and lows in 40s. just trying to figure out if we want to come that early or wait til later in the year. Dont want it to be so cold that we cant enjoy the walking tours.

I've only been there in June and I live in a coldish place, so I didn't find it cold then, but others did. The thing with later than May is the heather is blooming.

No matter when you go, it's a good idea to take layers; a sweater, jacket, rain proof stuff, an umbrella. If you are going to be walking, a bag to take these things with you is a good idea. It can and does change suddenly, and you can get a sunburn and soggy on the very same day.

Bear in mind that getting wet is part of the cultural experience!

Presumably as you are talking about the weather in May, but writing in June, you are talking about next year?

Who can say? We in Scotland always say we can guarantee 4 seasons in one day!

May can be mild, with no midgies - but I've known us to have snow well into the end of May.

Back in the mid 70's, I was snowed in at Davie Glen's bothy on Jock's Road (Glen Clova to Braemar) the evening of the 6th June....
