Studying in Glasgow

Hello, I am an American student who is going to study in Glasgow next January at one of the universities. I am trying to find a host family and was wondering if anyone knows of the best ways to find one. I am emailing a few churches and asked the school, but I want as many options as possible.

Also, if anyone has any tips for me (I have never been in Europe before) that would be very welcome!

Digs in Glasgow

Your University will have a list of potential accomodation and of course they should have student Halls of Residence.
That would seem a best first stop.

sorry, I should have specified. The school actually does not have student housing, which is why I decided to look for a host family. Are there any other specific programs that I could possibly get in contact with? The school sounded like helping a student to find housing wasn't something they usually do, and I want to have a backup and not have to rely on them.

It is highly unusual for an HEI (university) NOT to have student accommodation. Perhaps they have lists of estate agents who have flats for students? Have you asked where their foreign students usually find accommodation?

Indeed.

Which university are you going to be attending ? (BTW, "school" in Scotland means a 5 -> 16/1718 year-old educational establishment.)

I am going to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The only suggestion they gave me so far was to look on Glasgowpad.

ye i dont think the RSAMD has digs right enough....

you be better contacting Glasgow uni or Strathclyde to find out about their digs.

although most students just rent private rooms around the city so you could google rooms for rent....

also if you want to save money stay out the west end as its very expensive..... circa £350 per month just for a room in a shared house.

Victoria halls is just round the corner from the RSAMD too

Victoria Hall -
