Isle of Arran

I am going from Glasgow to Arran by way of Ardrossan for the ferry. Can anyone suggest a place to stay in Ardrossan? I have booked hostels for all other places, but there are none there.
Also, any suggestions for things to do/see/walks on the island?
Thanks.

I don't know if you're going in the summer but if so I would take some insect repellant as it's one of the worst places in Scotland for midges (mosquito type insects). Arran is called Scotland in miniature because like the mainlaind the north of the island is mountainous while the south is hilly. It's main attraction is its beautiful scenery and there isn't much in the way of the usual commercialised tourist stuff. If you're fit then a lot of people like to walk up goatfell which is the highest point on the island but if not you could visit Brodick castle parts of which date back to the middle ages. Or you could hire a bike in Brodick and cycle around the island if you're really keen - it's over 40 miles- or there is a road that cuts across the island called the string that lets you cycle around half the island which is just over 20 miles and there are lots of scenic villages like Whiting bay and Blackwaterfoot with cafes and pubs etc.

Why don`t you just stay in Glasgow before heading off to Ardrossan ? It`s less than an hour away by train.

Arran

Scotsgait, Thanks for the heads up. I have changed plans and will head straight to Arran from Glosgow. I had misread the rail schedule and thought I would miss the ferry.

Andy-J3, I will be there September and hoping to miss those little buggers. Thank you for the other info as well.

I am looking forward to my adventure in your wonderful country. Scotland has been calling me for a year. No idea why, but I try to follow what the universe throws my way.

I have booked my hostels in but think I'll just wing it on the way back to Germany.

Hiya Nonny - long time no speak!

I bought every type of Avon so-soft product to use when I was in Inversneckie a few years back. None of them worked for me - but lots of people swear by those products.
