Question Please help me plan a one week trip to scotland this summer!

My mother and I will be going to scotland this summer but we don't want any of the touristic stuff, we'd like to go to and see the places where few people go and I, as a photographer would like to be able to take some stunning pictures! While my mother doesn't like to stay away from cities I very much enjoy scenic places, old castles and long walks! We need to find a compromise and perhaps go to a different location every two days, we would be coming by car. Another thing which is important is that my mother can be quite difficult and we will have to stay at good hotels such as Concorde in Berlin etc... Otherwise she will just say "I can't stand this, I am going home..."

I know, I know, but I can't change the way she is... Can anyone please advise? Thanks a lot!

I've a mate Wee Pat, everybody in the east end of Glasgow knows Wee Pat, ubiquitous you might say. He dresses like an Edwardian Dandy and I just happen to know he's available at the moment. I could fix things so as your Maw's "aff yer hauns" fur a few days. Nothing sordid, a bit of wining & dining, they could even compare family trees. It would give you a bit of space to peregrinate Caledonia in your tweeds, take a few pic's and check oot the talent! Whitdyesay? wullie.

Haha, no thanks, I'll pass. I just want some advice as to where to go and what nice hotels there are.

If your wallet is so heavy it's pulling your trousers down, then I heartily recommend this nice hotel.

I did not say we were rich! But my mother is an old woman and as such she can be difficult.

youl just need to book somewhere and risk it then....hopefully she'll like it.

try glasgow or edinburgh as the great outdoors is only 30 mins away from these cities so youl have all the modcons and country side in the one place

It really depends on what your looking for from your holiday. I'm maybe biased as it's where I come from but the Speyside area right up to Inverness and beyond has some beautiful natural landscapes and historic ruins for your photography as well as some fantastic distilleries. There are lots of lovely hotels in the area as well and not too expensive. If your mum doesn't want to leave the city Inverness would be a great option as she could spend the day shopping and drinking coffee in small cafes whilst you head to the hills or lochs for the day to take some photos.
Elgin would also be a fantastic base for you, the 'lantern of the north' is an ancient cathedral city and has plenty to see and do round about.
