I don't think it's much walked Lianachan. Did the south side of Lock Arkaig yonks ago, a nightmare of boulders and tall heather, had to sleep in a wee Argo shed in Glen Camagoury, worst ever walk, had to climb the hill to make progress. Even the keepers had never done it. A night in the wee electric bothy and train hame. Invermallie might be worth the metal detecting. Old Davie Cameron who last lived there, left thousands in a biscuit tin under one of the stair treads. It went to a nephew in Spean Bridge. He was born at Glenmallie, now a ruin, apparently his mother moved there after she married, from Locheil side, she had a big family and never left that house till they carried her out in a coffin. Commando Bar was our HQ for years, Hughie the manager a great guy, and wife Amy. Ex polis (Slider) owned it then.

Superb loch Lianachan, it's never been hydro'ed, home of big arctic char. Do you mean the wee gable end with a window?
The small schoolhouse at the end of the road, is where Norman MacLean, scholar & comedian, attended, when he was evacuated from Glasgow to stay with his grandfather during the war. Gramps was the keeper at Glendessary. Himself and his cousins were a wild lot, the teacher couldn't cope, and MacLean was sent to his other grandparents in Uist. Re' the forked purses of Prince Charlie, I heard a story of a lame cow on the north shore which was found to have a Louis D'Or jammed in the hoof! I suspect Cluny took quite a bit! wullie. |
