I spend a lot of time in England, unfortunately, and often have trouble with Scottish notes. I've also found quite a few people in shops to be pretty insulting and/or patronising about the Scottish notes. These days, I tend to avoid taking Scottish notes with me as I'm fed up trying to beat it into their thick skulls.

No problem...

I never had any problems spending Scottish notes because I always spend my money in Scotland only.

Don't be a daft wee bugger. Nobody's lying. Some places take them, some don't, for whatever reason. The very occasional time I am in England I carry only Scottish notes just to have a bit of fun. I was in Cumbria recently, and nowhere refused them. The last time I was in London, however, I got knocked back a couple of times. The second time they were forced to take it, as we had the drinks in our hands and everyone had been primed to take a sip before I handed the money over I made a point of buying the second round as well, and got a scowl but no further comments...

I've never had any real problems getting Scottish money accepted in northern parts of England, but can't comment on anywhere south of Manchester! Whoever made the comments about Clydedale notes has a point as when I get them I double check to make sure someone hasn't handed me some Monopoly money

I know it's a while since this has been discussed but the following article appeared in yesterday's Sunday Mail highlighting the fact that a problem does exist and many places in England are unwilling to accept Scottish notes. Outlets refusing include a charity shop and there is a problem with vending machines accepting Scottish notes.

I didn't read that report but do know from personal experience that some places still are wary
of Scottish Money !!

The worst place I have found is in Essex !!
