The RBS still produce £1 notes.
I got a whole stack of them a couple of weeks ago when i went in to get change for my car boot sale.

I have had Scottish notes refused MANY times in England.
And if im in a certain mood, when i get an English note in my change here in Scotland, I ask them to swap it for a Scottish one.

Just been reading up on this. Very interesting. Apparently the only note which is legal tender in Scotland is the Bank of England £1 note.

Except the BoE £1 note has been out of circulation for a number of years (the £1 couin has been about for 20+)... so I reckon anyone and everyone would be right to refuse that one!

Legal tender, on the other hand, is about the payment of debts. As a concept it doesn't exist in Scotland - any reasonable way of repayment will doubtlessly be upheld by a court, including via banknotes issued from private banks. I am amazed all the myths about it persist.

I go to England quite a bit (usually the South East) and although I get the occasional wee jibe, I've never known anywhere to refuse Scottish notes. Then again, I avoid C

In Scotland, however, only in most cases will Northern Irish banks' private notes be accepted. Which can be rather frustrating.

YES, we know ScotsTraveller.

My 'eek' smilie was used to highlight this very fact, but sadly some people don't understand the aesthetic evaluation of irony.

I returned from a jaunt south of the border last week...I took £200 in Scottish Notes with
me and in every shop I went into a supervisor was called...one young lass didnt even know
that Scotland printed their own currency !!

As I have said a few times before it's the Clydesdale Notes that are the problem...I don't know why but there it is !!
