Cool Trip To Scotland Just Around The Corner

Hi Everyone;
I am looking forward to a trip to Scotland in September. 23 glorious days! I have not been back for over 17 years (was 26 the last time I was there) and am sure things will have changed just a wee bitty.... I plan to visit Edinburgh and I have relatives in a place call Paisley which I don't remember but I am told is in Glasgow? I would like to experience the night life a bit so any recommendations would be appreciated for either Edinburgh or Glasgow.
I would also like to take some side trips, any ideas? I'd really like to see more of the country.

Hello
Paisley is not in Glasgow but nearby.
I don't know about Glasgow's nightlife - as I come from Edinburgh. And most of my socialising is in pubs, theatres and restaurants, so I'm not even au fait with clubs in the capital!

Edited to add: You'll probably get more replies if you move your query to the Travel forum rather than leaving it here in the Personals forum!

Are you intending to hire a car? If so, you could get to lots of places within easy reach of Edinburgh or Glasgow. From Glasgow you can reach Loch Lomond and the Trossachs very quickly. Stirling with its castle and the Wallace Monument is also worth a visit. St Andrews and the East Neuk of Fife is a nice trip from Edinburgh. The Borders are also a good destination from Edinburgh.

It all depends on what you want to see and where your interests lie.

Edited to add: You'd probably get more information if you re-posted this in the Travel forum, further down the main page, rather than putting it in the Personals where very few Scottish members post!

Pubs are great...

Hi Polworth;
Thanks for the reply, I will be in your fair city for about 5 days so anything you could recommend would be great. I have been told there are some very interesting trips I can take that include scary places, ghosts and such. I love history but I especially love it drizzled in a wee bit of mystery.
I would like to explore a bit and I'm sure when I'm finished, I'll need a wee dram or two. So what pubs would you recommend?

There are plenty of ghost tours to be found on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh... wander along and see what ones grab your interest! They all go off in slighly different directions - City of the Dead (Greyfriars' Cemetary with the famous MacKenzie Poltergeist), the Vaults and Mary King's Close to name a few... and there are also plenty pubs along the Mile as well!

Thanks Scots

I have been told that Mary Kings close is a good tour and am looking forward to exploring a bit and of course I have to visit the castle! I have now been told by a distant cousin that I am in for a treat as they plan to take me to the seaside where we went as youngsters (Ayr). I am hoping that the visit will jog old memories too. Thanks for the help folks, it has been great to hear back from you all.
